Nobody Gonna Break Our Stride.

Justine

WTF

Is it just me, or does anyone else (namely Jac a.k.a. WriterJax, Sarah and Lisa) loath their ancestors today for setting up permanent camp in western Massachusetts centuries ago? I mean, really. Snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet and flooding? And that was just in the past 24 hours.
This kind of weather was awesome when I was under 12 years old, scurrying to get my snowpants, jacket and all of the necessary accessories that would keep my extremities toasty. Armed with those red plastic sleds, we would set out for a snow-filled adventure - flying down the hill, ducking behind a snow fort after tossing some of the white stuff my brother's way (my little sister was always on my side, naturally).
Ahhh, those were the days; when snow was fun. It got us a lot of days off from school, too - one of the other little towns in my regional school district is so hicktown that only Main and a few other streets are paved, so clearing the roads wasn't really an easy task - if the Conway kids couldn't get to school, none of us had to go. Double thumbs up, Conway!!
These days suck. All a snowstorm means now is that I have to carefully pick out shoes to wear to work that won't soak through to my socks or nylons, or make me fall on my behind. I'm getting really sick of my winter jacket, too - there's so much static cling running through it that I may as well climb up an electric pole, lick my hand and grab on to the wires.
Maybe we were on to something with that whole snowpants/boots/sled/snow forts idea........ who's with me?!

Oh dear, thought that said snow farts not snow forts. Havent seen snow since I was about ten so I was thinking this was so game I didnt get told about!

Do you still have to go to work in a snowstorm?
Im in Sydney, I HATE winter, but am thinking maybe I should try get to the show in Oz this year to try do...whatever it is you do on snow. (im pretty sure I'll probably just prop myself at the bar)

Yes LW, we do have to go to work in most snowstorms!
the floods were the best part - what's next, the freakin' locusts?! GrammarGirl and Mini-grammargirl slept at Casa WriterJax last night because the water that accumulated on their street shorted the power out and they had no heat.

The fun of a snowday is gone. Snowpants, cocoa, sleeping in ... all replaced by spinning wheels on icy roads and frozen eyelashes.

And *this* is why, after living the first 25 years of my life in Connecticut, I now live in Florida. It may have been 36* this morning, but at least there was no snow, ice or slush. I miss white Christmases & Autumn... but that's about it.

Yes, I have to give a shout out to WriterJax for letting me park my wet winter jacket and snow-filled boots at her house last night.

No power+winter in New England+a husband away on a business trip+a foot of snow and slush= a grouchy mommy and a fidgety child in need of a warm place to sleep! Not to mention a need to watch Project Runway!

But the power's back, and hopefully, the 38-degree temps today will start to melt the ice skating rink that has taken over my driveway and sidewalks.

FYI, power went out again last night at 9:45, and wasn't restored until 7:30 this morning. I am beginning to hate the electric company.
